Colour Compass winners!

Angela in her December garden inspired Possit

Our Colour Compass KAL has concluded, and it is time to shout about our brilliant winners!

A few knitters really went above and beyond in their knitting, finding creative uses for every single shade in their Colour Compass boxes. One of these was Nathalie, who knitted a beautiful Endways, making a feature of the colours of each contrasting rib with striped echoes in the sleeves and body.

. .. and who also knitted a hap-nap, in a bold and stunning combination . . .

. . . as well as three Craigallian hats, each beautifully different from the last.

Minney also excelled herself with her knitting inside the box, completing an Endways . . .

. . . a hap-nap . . .

. . . and a stunning series of hats from our Milarrochy Heids book (see Cadans, above)

The colour combination she selected when knitting Ella Gordon’s Breiwick is particularly glorious.

If we were impressed by knitters working inside the box with our Colour Compass patterns, then we also loved several projects by knitters who chose to go outside the box, developing their own unique colourful pieces. Linda is a wonderful knitter, and we always enjoy seeing what she’s working on: we were particularly impressed by her beautiful adaptation of the Tìoraìdh pattern into a yoked sweater whose colours simply sing.

. . . and using every shade in the calendar, Gisipo’s scarf of mitred squares is also a wonderful exploration in colour that somehow manages to be joyful and meditative at the same time.

Among the Possit Posse winners is Anne, whose cardigan feels both fresh and floral . . .

. . . a second Anne (left) and Linda (right). . .

. . and Angela, whose December garden-inspired Possit involves a particularly beautiful colour combination, and who also randomly embodies my current hair styling goals (I am growing mine, and it is at a very unruly stage).

It was very difficult for the team to select “winners” in the Endways Excellence category, as there wasn’t a single colour combination we didn’t like. In the end we chose four, including Ismaha’s joyful ‘Mexican Fiesta’ Endways, shown here alongside Chris’s more subtle version (I find Ardlui very grounding, and love it here against this greenish skirt) . . .

. . . as well as these two beauties, knitted by Nancy and Heidi. I particularly like the way the pink / purple areas and yellow stripes resolve themselves and ‘read’ in Heidi’s sweater.

Gunhild and Jean both won prizes in our Small is Beautiful category, for their colourful interpretations of the Juxtaposing kerchief and Zickety cushion . . .

. . . and I awarded a prize for my favourite colour combination to Jaydee, who, in her Endways created one of those unusual and interesting shade sequences which just bowl you over with their quiet harmony.

Congratulations to all the winners, and a huge thanks to everyone who took part in the Colour Compass project: opening dotty bags each day in December, discovering the joy of everyday colour with Felix, and going on to explore the world of creative colour by developing individual palettes and shade sequences that were a continual source of delight and surprise to us all. Thanks too to Maylin and Claire for their superb Ravelry moderation, and to everyone, in their different corners of the world, who came together in the KDD Ravelry group, to share several happy months of colourful chat with us.

Here’s to many more months of happy colourful knitting this year!
